Studio Ghibli and Aichi Prefecture agreed to develop and operate Ghibli Park

Aichi Prefecture, Studio Ghibli, and the Chunichi Shimbun held a joint press conference on May 31, 2019 at the Aichi Prefectural Government regarding the concept of developing a “Ghibli Park” in the Aichi Expo Commemorative Park in Nagakute, Aichi Prefecture.

At the press conference, the three parties announced that they have reached a basic agreement that Aichi Prefecture will develop the Ghibli Park, and a new company jointly established by Studio Ghibli and the Chunichi Shimbun will manage and operate the park.

*Ghibli Park is planned to be developed in Aichi Prefecture’s facility, the Aichi Earth Expo Commemorative Park.

The detailed design of the park will be completed by the end of FY2019, with the aim of opening in the fall of 2022, and discussions will be held on project costs and management methods.

Governor Hideaki Omura said, “We want to create a one-of-a-kind park that recreates the world of Ghibli. We will create a park that will be loved by many people in the future, and that will be handed down to future generations,” emphasized Governor Omura.

Producer Toshio Suzuki of Studio Ghibli, who attended the press conference, unveiled the Ghibli Park logo that he and Director Hayao Miyazaki created.

“We will do our best to please as many people as possible, both in Japan and abroad,” the producer  said.
